England manager Thomas Tuchel has stated that Bukayo Saka probably won’t be in the lineup to face Ghana on Tuesday.
Saka entered the game as a substitute in the 4-2 World Cup victory against Croatia on Wednesday and promptly assisted fellow substitute Marcus Rashford, who scored England’s fourth goal.
Prior to the tournament, Tuchel mentioned that Saka would need to be managed cautiously during the initial phases due to what is believed to be an Achilles tendinitis concern.
On Monday, Saka stated he was prepared to play and was willing to “risk” his fitness to support the team in the World Cup.
Tuchel states that the Arsenal forward is probably not to start until the last group match versus Panama in New Jersey on 27 June.
He stated, “Bukayo is prepared and will continue to become increasingly ready.” “I believe that by the time we reach the final match of this group, he will be prepared.”
Saka has been managing the problem for a while, and although there was worry behind the scenes at Arsenal about the minor injury, they considered their forward healthy enough to begin consistently during their successful title push.
It is recognized that Saka’s persistent Achilles problem has not worsened since the peak of the domestic season.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who is typically cautious about discussing his players’ injury issues, has largely kept details about Saka’s situation private; however, Tuchel’s acknowledgment that the 24-year-old must be carefully managed for at least part of the World Cup has brought the winger’s fitness into the spotlight.
Tuchel’s recent remarks suggest that the German is shielding Saka, aware that the forward will probably be a vital player in the tournament’s later phases—but might also begin the match against Ghana if necessary.
