Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has berated Nigerians over their silence amid the insecurity and economic hardship bedevilling the country.

Amaechi, speaking at a recent function, lamented the rising spate of suicides in the country.

He lamented that “instead of Nigerians finding solutions to their problems, they are committing suicide.”

The former Rivers State governor also mentioned that he keeps praying for Nigerians to keep committing suicide over the hardship in the country.

“I’m praying for you all to continue committing suicide so that, by the time I wake up one day, all of you must have died so that I can now keep the benefits of your death,” he said.

Amaechi also bemoaned the level of tolerance Nigerians have towards bad leadership.

He lamented that while other African countries have the culture of holding their leaders accountable, Nigerians only pray for the expiration of the tenure of a leader who has failed to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

“What other people resist, like in Ghana, like it is going on now, like in Kenya, is what Nigerians tolerate,” he said.

It will be recalled that Amaechi lost the APC party’s presidential election primaries to Bola Tinubu in 2022.
