The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has alleged that he was shot at by security operatives in the state.
The governor stated this while addressing the press and his supporters on Monday.
Fubara stated that while he was on his way to the State House of Assembly Complex to see the level of damages as a result of the Sunday explosion that rocked the complex, the governor stated that he was “shot at directly” by the officer in charge of the operation.
He said, “We wake up this morning with very troubling news. We were going to the assembly to see for ourselves what had happened.
“On my way there, I was shot at directly by the OC operations.”
Speaking on the plans by lawmakers in Rivers State to impeach him, the governor noted that his getting impeached will not be the first time a governor gets impeached.
However, he called for due process and credible, impeachable reasons to back the motives of the lawmakers.
“To my journey today,” he said, “whatever wants to happen, let it happen. If Fubara Siminalayi is impeached, I’m not the first, nor will I be the last,” he added.
He further added that “what is important is that any attempt that is not justified will be resisted.”
Fubara called on the Rivers Assembly to “come out and tell the Rivers people the offence that I have committed.”
House members, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, issued Fubara an impeachment notice before fleeing for safety as tear gas was thrown outside the complex.
