The executive governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has urged the residents of the state to overwhelmingly re-elect sacked lawmakers in the state’s re-run election.

The Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State launched an open campaign on Saturday for the upcoming Plateau North Senatorial and Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency rerun elections.

On Saturday, Mutfwang began the campaigns along Jos’ Langfield-Rayfield axis.

The Court of Appeal ordered the two re-run elections after nullifying the elections of Simon Mwadkwon and Musa Agah, who were previously declared winners by the Independent National Electoral Commission in the 2023 general elections.

The Appeal Court overturned Mwadkwon and Agah’s victory on the grounds that the PDP that nominated them as candidates lacked organization.

Although the Supreme Court denied the Appeal Court’s petition against the PDP, the Independent National Electoral Commission set February 3, 2024, as the date for rerun elections in the Plateau North Senatorial district and Jos North/Bassa Federal constituency of the state.

Mutfwang, speaking at the opening of the PDP campaigns on Saturday, encouraged the public to return the two candidates to their original posts.

He also urged all government officials employed by his administration to choose a ward in their respective locations and commit to the campaigns to guarantee that the PDP candidates win in the end.

Mutfwang said, “We are worthy of leadership for the people of Plateau to represent them in the National Assembly. We therefore have a duty and a responsibility to ensure that Simon Mwadkwon and Musa Agah return to the Senate and House of Representatives, respectively.

“Anyone that is working to ensure that the PDP does not go on the ballot, let me inform you that, by the grace of God, you’re wasting your time. To ensure that peace returns on the plateau, therefore, I urge all our members to campaign within the next week, from tonight to Thursday.

“Therefore, we’ll enter every house we can.” We’ll knock on every door we need to knock on, and I think that plateau is in the mood. Let’s do it again.”
