Real Madrid and Paris St-Germain centre-back Sergio Ramos will join his old team Sevilla as a free agent, the Laliga team announced on Monday.
Ramos is returning to his boyhood club, Sevilla, as a free agent, the Laliga side said on Monday.
The 37-year-old turned down a hefty offer from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad and agreed to a one-year contract with the Spanish team after his contract with the Ligue 1 club expired in June, reports said.
Ramos began attending our youth academy when he was seven years old and advanced through the ranks until he made his first reserve team appearance at the age of 16 in the 2002–03 season.
Sevilla released a statement saying, “Our academy’s centre-back… returns home almost two decades after departing at the age of 19 for Real Madrid.”
After failing to come to an agreement to prolong his 16-year stint at Real Madrid, the defender left for PSG on a free transfer in 2021. In his two seasons with the French club, he captured two Ligue 1 championships.
He played a total of 671 games and scored 101 goals while at Real, winning four Champions Leagues and five Laliga trophies.
Prior to declaring his international retirement in February, Spain’s most-capped player had claimed two European Cups and the 2010 World Cup.
