A rainstorm has destroyed property worth millions of naira in Ekiti State’s Oke-Ako, Ikole Local Government.

According to reports, the downpour, which was accompanied by a strong whirlwind, occurred last Friday evening.

Over 105 residential buildings and shops, as well as electric poles, were destroyed by the rainstorm.

According to some of the victims, the rain began normally but soon began blowing off rooftops and destroying electric poles, causing total blackout in the sleepy community.

Elder Ilesanmi Elijah, one of the victims, expressed regret that the rainstorm had damaged his property.

He requested assistance from the state government.

“I was called by other residents that my house had been destroyed by the rainstorm. It blew off the rooftops, thereby rendering my family and I homeless. I will appreciate it if the government can assist us,” he said.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Mrs. Monisade Afuye, expressed delight that no life was lost during the incident.

She said the government would assist the victims.
