Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) lifted their first-ever UEFA Super Cup after a thrilling fightback against Tottenham Hotspur, overturning a two-goal deficit before prevailing in a tense penalty shootout.

The victory marks the French Champions’ fifth trophy in 2025 alone.

Tottenham, looking to become only the second Europa League holders since 2012 to win the competition, started brightly. In the opening minute, Pedro Porro missed a golden chance, and moments later Khvicha Kvaratskhelia dragged an effort wide for PSG.

Richarlison spearheaded Spurs’ attack and came close midway through the first half, forcing new PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier into a fingertip save.

Mohamed Kudus also tested Champions League winners’ defence, but it was Micky van de Ven who opened the scoring in the 38th minute, pouncing on a rebound after João Palhinha’s effort had been tipped onto the post. Kudus nearly doubled the lead moments later, only to be denied by the woodwork.

Two minutes after the restart, Cristian Romero extended Spurs’ lead, his header squeezing under Chevalier from a free-kick. Tottenham continued to press, with Porro and Kevin Danso narrowly missing the target.

PSG finally threatened with 25 minutes remaining when Désiré Doué’s strike was parried by Guglielmo Vicario, leading to a Bradley Barcola finish that was ruled out for offside. The French champions kept pushing and were rewarded five minutes from time as Lee Kang-in fired a crisp shot from the edge of the area.

Deep into stoppage time, Ousmane Dembélé’s cross found Gonçalo Ramos, whose header completed the comeback.

The match went to penalties, where Spurs initially led after Vitinha missed PSG’s first attempt.

However, Chevalier saved from Van de Ven to level the contest, and Mathys Tel’s miss allowed Nuno Mendes to bury the winning spot-kick — sealing PSG’s place in history as the first French club to win the UEFA Super Cup.
