Nottingham Forest are closing in on Ange Postecoglou as their next head coach following the shock dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo.
Nuno’s 21-month spell at the City Ground came to an abrupt end late on Monday night, just days after a 3-0 defeat to West Ham before the international break.
The 51-year-old Portuguese coach, who guided Forest to their highest league finish in nearly 30 years last season, leaves with the club sitting 10th in the Premier League after three games.
Forest wasted no time in identifying his potential successor, with initial contact already made with Postecoglou. The 60-year-old Australian is seen as a leading candidate, and sources suggest a deal could be struck in time for Saturday’s trip to Arsenal.
Postecoglou, who was dismissed by Tottenham at the end of last season after a poor league campaign that saw them finish 17th, still left with silverware after guiding Spurs to a long-awaited Europa League triumph.
His arrival would mark Forest’s eighth permanent managerial appointment since Evangelos Marinakis took control of the club in 2017. News of Nuno’s departure has caught several Forest players off guard, with many currently away on international duty.
The club hierarchy now appear set on a swift appointment, determined to maintain momentum after an encouraging start to the season.
