Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, a renowned Nigerian evangelist and the spiritual leader of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, has died.

His family revealed in a statement on Monday that he died on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80.

The family hailed his death as a “glorious transition” from a life of selfless devotion to eternal rest.

Ukpai, a spiritual general and founding father of faith, spent over six decades of his life evangelizing, teaching the Word dynamically, and demonstrating God’s power prophetically.

His ministry touched millions of people in Nigeria and around the world, influencing destinies and encouraging spiritual growth across generations.

“He was a faithful soldier of the cross who devoted his life to spreading the gospel with passion and integrity.

“His teachings, prophetic insights, and mentorship have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire believers for years to come,” his family said.

Throughout his career, Ukpai was noted for his aggressive evangelistic campaigns, transformative teachings, and dedication to strengthening clergy and lay leaders.

Aside from his spiritual work, he was also known as a loving spouse, dedicated father, and mentor to numerous people who looked to him for guidance in religion and life.

The family expressed appreciation for Ukpai’s life and efforts, emphasizing that while they lament his bodily absence, they celebrate that he has “finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise.”

They informed the public that details about his funeral would be released in due course.

Ukpai’s ministry, which lasted over sixty years, left a deep spiritual and social legacy, including churches, educational projects, and humanitarian endeavors that continue to influence communities around the world.

His life, the family stated, was a witness to the biblical message that “to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).
