The Federal Government has stated constructing a smart divisional police headquarters and six residential quarters for rank-and-file officers in Mpape, a community in the Bwari Area Council of Abuja.
The project is part of ongoing reforms aimed at transforming policing in Nigeria through the integration of modern technology and fostering inclusivity.
Ibrahim Gaidam, the Minister of Police Affairs, represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Yusuf Abubakar Argungu, performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the project.
Bolaji Kazeem, the Ministry’s Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, said in a statement on Sunday that the initiative aims to solve security issues in Mpape and its neighbouring districts, making it a safer place for people and businesses.
“The presence of this divisional headquarters of the police in this location will protect citizens commuting daily for their activities from the dangers of kidnapping, one-chance operations, and robbery, as well as other related crimes affecting people in the city,” Gaidam said.
The minister underlined the federal government’s commitment to transforming the oForce into a modern, technology-driven agency capable of conducting intelligence-led and community-based missions.
“The Federal Government is committed to the emergence of a world-class police force that is inclusive, intelligence-led, technology-driven, and community-based,” the statement read.
Alhaji Adamu Diga, the District Head of Mpape, praised the Ministry, the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, and the Force for elevating the current Mpape Police Post to Divisional Headquarters.
He remarked that the construction would improve efficiency and service delivery for district inhabitants.
According to the statement, the initiative represents a significant step towards improving security and modernising enforcement infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory.
