The Ogun State Police Command has recovered an AK-47 rifle, two rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and an unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK during security operations in Ota, as investigations into criminal activities in the area intensify.
The recovery followed a search of the vehicle, during which police operatives discovered the rifle and ammunition concealed inside.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the vehicle and recovered items had been secured, while investigations were ongoing to establish their ownership and possible links to criminal activities.
According to Babaseyi, the latest development followed an earlier police operation in Ijaba, Iyesi, Ota, where officers responding to a robbery incident reportedly neutralised a suspected armed robber.
During the earlier operation, police also recovered two vehicles, suspected stolen property and a locally made pistol with ammunition.
He said the latest recovery was part of a series of operational developments in Ota, as the police intensified efforts to tackle robbery and other criminal activities in the area.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved, praising their vigilance and professionalism.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing and protecting lives and property across the state.
The police also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and useful information that could assist investigations and help prevent crime.
