Oba Saheed Elegushi of the Ikate Kingdom in Lagos State has praised the Police and other security agencies for maintaining peace and order during Saturday’s general election in the state’s Ikate-Elegushi area.

Elegushi stated this while briefing reporters following his civic duty at Polling Unit 008 within the Ikate-Elegushi Palace in Lagos.

“Everything is fine; I was out earlier to exercise my civic rights as a Nigerian citizen. I voted for my preferred candidate and am now back in my palace.

“The Army Commander and the Police just visited me. They informed me of the incident and that the matter had been resolved. “I’m not aware of any arrests,” he said.

He, on the other hand, condemned the movement of voters from one polling unit to another without proper verification by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“I have a question for INEC. How is it possible for someone to go to your website, make a transfer, and upload an address to vote without first verifying it?

“We see a lot of strange faces who don’t live in this area coming here to vote. We cannot accept it because it is a forgery.

“Definitely after the election, we have to take it up because it is not right. There are a lot of strange faces here who don’t even live in this local government and are voting.

“When you do a transfer, you must be able to verify the address,” he said.

The newsmen gathered that there had been fracas at some polling units outside the palace, where some voters claimed they were not allowed to vote.

Newsmen also reports that security operatives were on the ground, following an allegation of the destruction of voting materials at some polling units around the area.

Elegushi, however, said that the Army Commander had subsequently visited him and that the situation had been put under control.

Newsmen also observed that normalcy had immediately returned to the polling units outside the palace after which security operatives with armoured personnel carriers patrolled the area.
