The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the distribution of an additional 220 operational vehicles, including water canons, armoured personnel carriers, helmets, bulletproof vests, tear gas canisters, and other equipment, to Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi states in order to beef up security for the elections.
This was announced in a statement signed by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer.
According to the statement, the IGP had previously organized trainings for police officers involved in election security management for the upcoming elections, as well as sought approval from the Federal Government for the payment of their allowances and other necessary support to boost the officers’ morale during the operations.
As a result, the IGP urges all stakeholders in the three states to embrace peace, uphold the rule of law, and be law-abiding in their endeavours before, during, and after the elections, as the police and other security agencies have been placed on high alert to avert any unruly acts capable of disrupting the elections in any of the states.
