The Federal Capital Territory Police Command reported on Wednesday the arraignment of popular TikToker Pam Joshua for circulating fake and misleading information on bandits’ attacks in Abuja.
Addressing journalists at the command headquarters, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, noted that the content creator was apprehended for sharing false information and creating panic.
The content creator had shared clips that have now gone viral, claiming bandits have overrun the nation’s capital.
The police chief noted that the culprit has been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
“Pam Joshua has been arraigned before a competent court of law for injurious falsehood and breach of public peace and has been remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre pending trial,” he said.
Sanusi asked locals to double-check security-related information with relevant authorities, emphasizing that spreading false information with the intent to cause panic is still a crime.
