The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspected cult leader whose gang attempted to take over a tricycle (Keke Marwa) park in the Fadeyi region of the state.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s public relations officer, confirmed the arrest to reporters on Thursday in Lagos.

Hundeyin revealed that the suspect was apprehended on Wednesday by Onipanu Police Division officers.

He further stated that one locally produced weapon and two live rounds of ammunition were discovered during the arrest.

Hundeyin stated that the police received information that six alleged cult members were harassing commercial tricycle operators at Keke Marwa Park in the Fadeyi neighbourhood.

Following the information, the PPRO stated that a team of anti-crime agents proceeded to the area and arrested Seun Olatunbosu.

”The suspects, armed with dangerous weapons, including guns, cutlasses, and axes, disrupted the activities of the park and also tried to attack the chairman of the said park.

”On receipt of the information, a team of anti-crime operatives immediately went to the scene, and one Seun Olatunbosu, 29 years old, was arrested with one locally made pistol and two live cartridges while others escaped,” he said.

According to the command’s spokeswoman, during the inquiry, the suspect admitted to being a member of the Black Axe Confraternity.

“Efforts are on to arrest other members of the gang,” he added.

Similarly, during a rival cult confrontation last Wednesday, officers from the state command’s Igando Division detained two suspects, Hammed Olawale and Japhet Oderinde, and recovered a locally produced semiautomatic weapon from them.
