Over 200 students of Saint Academy, Jos, Plateau State, are reportedly still trapped under the rubble of collapsed classrooms which collapsed while students were writing exams on Friday.
The principal of the school, Mr. Daramola, disclosed this while speaking to the press at the scene of the incident.
Describing the collapse as “heartbreaking,” Daramola pointed out that he was reduced to tears over the incident.
“I wasn’t just myself. As a matter of fact, I was crying. It is so pathetic, so heartbreaking,” Daramola stated.
Responding to questions on the number of pupils trapped in the rubble, Daramola said,All things being equal, there should not be less than 200 students.
“JSS1 they are 42, JSS2 they are 36, JSS3 42, SS1A 31, SS1B 44, SS1C 9.”
He added that a good number of the pupils have been rescued so far.
Chronicle NG reported that several students were killed, injured, and others trapped in the rubble of a collapsed school building at Saint Academy, located in Busa Buji, Jos, Plateau State.
Our correspondent, who was at the scene at the time of the incident, saw no fewer than five students rescued and brought to the hospital.
At the time of filing this report, rescue efforts were ongoing by operatives of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, the Red Cross, the Fire Service, and other sister agencies.
