Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Wednesday inaugurated the Plateau State Chapter of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a support group that mobilizes grassroots backing for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Held at the Langfield Event Centre in Little Rayfield, Jos, the inauguration also included the unveiling of 25 campaign vehicles donated by the movement’s Grand Patron, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, widely known as Tompolo, to strengthen grassroots mobilisation throughout the state.
Speaking at Wednesday’s event, Mutfwang said he decided to support Tinubu after a personal meeting with the President shortly after the 2023 general elections.
“I made up my mind that this was the President to work with even when I was not in the same party with him. I saw a man who is committed to making Nigeria better,” the governor said.
He recognized the economic and security challenges confronting the country, but pointed out that the Federal Government had taken measures to tackle them, calling on Nigerians to be patient while the reforms take effect.
“Yes, we are not there yet. The country has challenges, and we will not deny them. But we are certainly on the path to setting things right,” he said.
Regarding security, Mutfwang praised Tinubu for his backing of Plateau State, expressing confidence that cooperation between the Federal and State Governments would bolster efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore lasting peace.
He pointed to ongoing federal interventions in infrastructure, especially the proposed dualisation of the Mararaban Jama’a-Mangu-Pankshin-Langtang-Shendam corridor, extending across River Ibi, as proof of the administration’s commitment to tackling long-standing development challenges.
According to him, a technical team from the Federal Ministry of Works is already in the state carrying out preliminary work on the road project, and he expressed optimism that the necessary details would be finalized before the end of the year.
The governor said the proposed project would be a major intervention for communities that have endured decades of poor road infrastructure, noting that the dualization and the associated safety features would enhance connectivity and stimulate economic activities.
Mutfwang called on members of the movement to step up grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections, and announced that Plateau State would host Tinubu on November 14, 2026, for a major rally at the Zaria Road Stadium.
He urged members of the movement to mobilize at least 50 persons each for the rally.
“We are going to show the world that Plateau people are in love with President Tinubu, and we have every reason to show that love because he has demonstrated it towards us,” he said.
He said the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement is more than just a campaign support group, noting that its grassroots approach mirrors the mobilization strategy used during the 2023 elections. He encouraged members to reach out to communities throughout the state while encouraging peaceful political participation.
The governor also urged those who received the donated vehicles to use them responsibly.
“Those who have been given the opportunity to use those vehicles, please use them responsibly and make sure you do not bring us to shame,” he warned.
Earlier, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, called for coordinated support for the party’s candidates at every level, stressing the need to align campaigns for the Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship and State Assembly elections.
He stated that the party is committed to strengthening security and infrastructure in Plateau State, pointing to federal interventions in security deployment, forest guard training and road construction.
Also speaking, the Grand Patron of the movement, Ekpemupolo, said Tinubu has shown commitment and love for Nigeria, adding that he is dedicated to making the country greater.
He described the President’s economic reforms as a process that requires patience, arguing that the benefits are gradually improving livelihoods and expanding economic opportunities.
He stressed the importance of grassroots communication and urged members to carry the message to local governments, wards, polling units, markets, churches and households.
The group had earlier paid a courtesy visit to the Governor at his office in Government House, Jos, where both sides expressed commitment to mobilizing support for the President and other APC candidates.
The event was attended by APC leaders, political stakeholders and members of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement.
