Manchester City’s Phil Foden has been named as the PFA Players’ Player of the Year.

The prestigious award follows on the back of a 2023/24 campaign that was widely acknowledged as the finest season yet in the Academy graduate’s glittering career.

The England attacking midfielder was one of Pep Guardiola’s key components in helping drive his side to what was a historic fourth consecutive Premier League—the first time any English men’s team has achieved such a feat.

Foden had a career-high 19 goals and eight assists in 35 Premier League matches, the greatest return of his senior career.

Overall, the 24-year-old scored 27 goals in 53 appearances across all competitions, helping City win the 2023 UEFA Super Cup and the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup, when he was named man of the match in a 4-0 victory over Fluminense.

Along with the goals and inspired inventiveness in attack, Foden once again showed his tactical versatility, playing in a variety of places for City and demonstrating his quality whether deployed wide or in a more creative central role.

This newest accolade, voted for by his peers, comes after Foden was named Premier League Player of the Year, Football Writers Association Footballer of the Year, and City’s Etihad Player of the Season.

In addition to his contribution, Foden was named to the PFA Team of the Year, alongside City teammates Kyle Walker, Rodrigo, and Erling Haaland.

“To win this award is something very special, and it is one that I am very proud of and grateful for,” said Foden.

“To be recognised this way by your fellow professionals means everything, and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me.

“I also want to pay special thanks to Pep, the city coaches, and all my teammates, as they help me to try and get better every single day.

“I’d also like to congratulate Kyle, Rodrigo, and Erling on being voted into the PFA Team of the Year, as it’s great to see their amazing quality recognised in such a way.

“Last season was another very special one for everyone at the club, but now all our focus is concentrated on trying to achieve more success this term,” Foden added.
