Suspected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) thugs have held Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Tonye Cole, hostage in Opobo.

In a video clip leaked on social media, sporadic gunshots were heard at the place.

Opobo is the hometown of the PDP governorship candidate, Siminilayi Fubara.

This is the second time the party’s campaign rally was attacked in the state in two weeks.

The first one was in Port Harcourt City Council where suspected dynamite exploded, injuring five persons.

The police command is yet to react to the attack.

The police in Rivers State have confirmed that armed men attacked the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Senator Magnus Abe while heading for Akinima in Ahoada West Local Government for campaigns.

Spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, however, said security personnel attached to the candidate were able to repel the attack, which occurred on Monday.

Iringe-Koko, in a statement yesterday, said the police immediately dispatched a tactical team to reinforce the security agents earlier posted to the campaign venue.
