The national executive committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved November 15 and 16 for the election of new national working committee (NWC) members.

The dates were ratified during the NEC meeting held on Thursday at the PDP national headquarters in Abuja.

The PDP governors proposed August 28 for the party’s national convention in April, at the peak of the crisis involving the national secretary position.

Reading a communiqué issued after the meeting, Debo Ologunagba, PDP spokesperson, said NEC reassured members that the party is “strong, united, cohesive, stable, and focused”.

“Pursuant to the foregoing, NEC approved the year 2025 elective national convention schedule of activities and timetable,” the communique reads.

“Under the approved timetable, the elective national convention to elect the next set of national officers of our party will be held on Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.”

Ologunagba said NEC directed Umar Damagum, the acting national chairman, and Samuel Anyanwu, the national secretary, to write to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) about the election’s time, venue, and agenda.

He said the NEC approved the membership composition of the national convention committee and the composition of the national convention zoning committee to “ensure a successful, transparent, and credible elective national convention”.

Ologunagba said NEC directed the NWC to “take immediate legal action to recover the seats of all serving members of the national and state assemblies” elected on the platform of the PDP but defected to another party.

He said the NEC expressed “serious concern and frowns at” the participation and involvement of some party members in the activities, meetings, and gatherings of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.

“NEC calls on these members to reconsider their actions and show loyalty and commitment as members of the PDP, especially as the law does not permit membership of two political parties at the same time,” he said.

The PDP spokesperson added that the NEC has fixed its next meeting for August 25.
