Bola Oyebamiji, the immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, was selected on Saturday as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the upcoming Osun governorship election in Osun State.
Oyebamiji’s rise came after a motion proposed by two gubernatorial candidates, Kunle Adegoke (SAN) and Senator Babajide Omoworare, at the primary election site situated within the grounds of Ebunoluwa Group of Schools, Osogbo.
The Governor of Edo State and Chairman of the APC governorship primary committee, Monday Okpebholo, then presented the motion for a voice vote, which garnered significant backing from the party members in attendance at the primary.
Okpebholo then proclaimed, “With the authority granted to me, I present to you Bola Oyebamiji as our party’s candidate for governor.”
The APC governorship primary in Osun State kicked off in Osogbo, the capital of the state, with the committee chairman, Monday Okpebholo, arriving and highlighting that the candidate would be selected by affirmation.
He reached the venue with the committee’s co-chairman, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, as well as other members of the governorship primary committee, such as Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, representing the Lagos State Governor, and the former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
On Tuesday, 1660 delegates chosen to elect the APC candidate in the party’s governorship primary on December 13 were selected.
After a late-night meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday, the seven APC governorship aspirants in the state stepped down to support a consensus flagbearer.
Senator Iyiola Omisore, a former APC National Secretary, supported the party’s decision to select a consensus candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship on TVC News’ Politics Tonight.
