    Osinbajo graces Mo Ibrahim Foundation board meeting in Belgium

    Nigeria’s former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has joined other eminent global & African leaders at the Mo Ibrahim Foundation board meeting in Brussels, Belgium.

    The gathering brought together an array of influential figures, including former Senegalese President Macky Sall, former Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, and former Irish President Mary Robinson, among others.

    Under the auspices of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, the leaders convened to discuss strategies for advancing governance, stability, and sustainable development across the African continent.

    Osinbajo noting the significance of the meeting, said, “It was a pleasure to convene with fellow council members and guests at the board meeting of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation this afternoon in Brussels… to explore effective governance strategies for the continent.”

    He also acknowledged the presence of other distinguished leaders, including former Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde, former Nigerien Prime Minister Ibrahim Assane Mayaki, former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and former AfDB President Donald Kaberuka.

    • Osinbajo says Integrity now a scarce commodity

    The Mo Ibrahim Foundation, established by philanthropist Mo Ibrahim, aims to foster good governance in Africa through initiatives like the Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG) and the Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership.

    The discussions addressed critical areas such as economic resilience, security, climate adaptation, and leadership accountability.

    By assembling these distinguished figures, the foundation reinforces its commitment to supporting African leaders in navigating complex governance challenges and promoting growth and stability across the region.

    Since completing his tenure as vice president on May 29, 2023, Osinbajo has taken on several new roles.

    He was appointed as the Chairman of the Commonwealth Observer Group to monitor the 2023 Sierra Leone Elections in May 2023

    In July 2023, Osinbajo was named a Global Advisor by the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), an international agency jointly funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, and the Bezos Earth Fund.

    In this capacity, he supports GEAPP’s mission to accelerate clean energy deployment in developing countries and advocates for just energy transitions in Africa, including scaling up Africa’s share of the global carbon market via the Africa Carbon Markets Initiative (ACMI)

    Additionally, Osinbajo serves as the Board Chair of the Climate Action Platform for Africa (CAP-A), a public benefit organization focused on unlocking Africa’s potential as a global hub for climate action

    He was appointed to this role in September 2023.

    In March 2024, Osinbajo was appointed as the Guardian of the Timbuktoo Africa Innovation Foundation, a partnership between UNDP, African governments, and the private sector aimed at supporting the innovation ecosystem in Africa.

    Osinbajo also serves as a High Representative of the Timbuktoo Fund by the UNDP, with the ambition to mobilize and invest $1 billion to transform 100 million livelihoods and create 10 million dignified new jobs

    The Mo Ibrahim Foundation board meeting highlighted the collective effort and commitment of these leaders to address various challenges and opportunities facing Africa.

    The foundation continues to play a crucial role in fostering dialogue and action among these esteemed individuals, emphasizing the importance of good governance, leadership, and sustainable development in Africa.
