Osimhen risks Napoli sanction after fight at nightclub

Victor Osimhen faces a fine from Napoli after being seen on camera arguing with a fan in a nightclub.

The 25-year-old was absent from Napoli’s Coppa Italia first-round match against Modena at the Stadio Maradona on Saturday night owing to an unclear future, with Napoli director Giovanni Manna confirming his request to leave the club.

His €130 million release clause has deterred many suitors, with Chelsea the only European team remaining interested in signing him after PSG backed out.

While his transfer situation remains unresolved, the former Lille striker may have gotten into trouble with the club’s leadership after a TikTok user, Roberto Cerullo, posted a video of him visiting a prominent nightclub in Naples.

In the video, Osimhen is seen pushing his way through the crowd, visibly furious about being caught, and approaching the fan in rage before the video abruptly ends.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Nigerian could face a fine because his manager, Antonio Conte, is known for discipline.

“The Napoli striker was the protagonist of an unpleasant altercation last night with a fan who, after recognising him, was filming him with his cell phone in a public place,” the website wrote.

“Nothing sensational, except that the striker disguised with a cap with a visor once he noticed the filming decided to push his way through the crowd to snatch the phone from the admirer’s hands. The player seemed rather annoyed, perhaps because he was caught late at night in the Neapolitan nightlife.

“In addition to the embarrassing situation, a fine is likely on the way; Antonio Conte does not compromise on certain things.”

Osimhen, who joined Napoli from Lille in the summer of 2020 for a club record amount of €70 million plus an additional €10 million in bonuses, has been identified as Chelsea’s top target following the failure of their agreement for Atletico Madrid’s Samuel Omorodion.

The former Wolfsburg striker has not appeared in any of Napoli’s pre-season games, and his last appearance in an Azzurri shirt came on the final day of the 2023/24 Serie A season, in a 0-0 draw against Lecce.

Osimhen may have played his final game for Napoli when Manna stated that the striker was not in Conte’s plans for the upcoming season.

The 25-year-old has been in excellent form with the Parthenopeans over the last two seasons, leading them to their first Scudetto win in over three decades in 2022/23, hitting 26 league goals and earning the top scorer award.
