Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen maintained his impressive scoring form on Friday, netting as Galatasaray cruised to a 4-0 away win over Konyaspor in the Turkish Süper Lig.
Osimhen broke the deadlock in the 12th minute at the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Stadium, rising to head in a cross from Gabriel Sara and hand the visitors an early lead.
Galatasaray doubled their advantage amid a dominant first-half showing. Yunus Akgün made it 2-0 in the 28th minute, and Sara added the third three minutes later to put the Turkish champions firmly in control.
The visitors kept up their attacking momentum after the break, with Aleksey Batrakov extending the lead in the 49th minute. Rafael Leão then converted a penalty in the 55th minute to seal the 4-0 victory.
The win came only days after Galatasaray beat Istanbul rivals Fenerbahçe 2-1 in Monday’s derby, with Osimhen scoring both goals to earn his side the bragging rights.
The Nigerian forward’s latest goal lifted his league tally to nine this season, having gone into Friday’s match with eight.
Against Fenerbahçe, Osimhen broke the deadlock in the 29th minute with a finish after linking up with Barış Alper Yılmaz. He doubled Galatasaray’s lead in the 44th minute with a header after Davinson Sánchez’s effort rebounded.
Though İrfan Can Kahveci pulled one back for Fenerbahçe in the 62nd minute, Galatasaray held on to secure the derby win.
Friday’s result further cemented Galatasaray’s place at the top of the league table. They had come into the fixture with 22 points from nine matches and extended their winning run with another convincing display.
Osimhen’s back-to-back influential performances will give Galatasaray another lift as they look to hold their advantage in the Turkish title race.
Konyaspor started Nigerian defender Chidozie Awaziem and kept him on for the full match.
Galatasaray will now turn their focus to next Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League meeting with VfB Stuttgart.
