Thousands of Muslim faithful gathered at the Ile-Oodua Palace in Ile-Ife on Friday to pay Sallah homage to the Ooni of Ife, Arole Oduduwa Olofin Adimula, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, during a grand Eid-ul-Adha celebration marked by prayers, unity, and royal blessings.
In his address, the revered monarch, who also serves as Chairman of the South Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council (SNTRC), congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the successful completion of the Hajj pilgrimage and the symbolic sacrifice that defines Eid-ul-Adha.
“As we celebrate today, may we witness many more celebrations. May the Almighty spare our lives and grant us peace,” Ooni Ogunwusi said, urging continued unity among Nigerians, regardless of faith or background.
He extended special greetings to the Chief Imam of Ifeland, Alhaji AbdulSemiu AbdulHammed, praising his role in strengthening Islamic practices and fostering harmony in the region.
“I am always happy to see you. God loves unity, and it is only through unity that we can thrive. Let us continue to embrace and promote unity among ourselves,” the king added.
Known for his commitment to interfaith harmony in Yorubaland, the Ooni highlighted the urgent need for peaceful coexistence amid national challenges.
Earlier, Chief Imam AbdulHammed commended the Ooni for his humility and open-door leadership style, which he said has continually bridged the gap between religious and traditional institutions.
“We are grateful to Kabiyesi for opening the palace to the Muslim community during this sacred celebration. We pray that Almighty Allah continues to bless the Ooni with prosperity, wisdom, and long life,” the Imam said.
The colourful event drew scholars, Islamic leaders, traditional chiefs, and residents from across the region, reinforcing Ile-Ife’s cultural and spiritual significance.
