Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana faces a Premier League ban if he refuses to represent Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Indomitable Lions are anticipated to call up Onana for the competition, which will take place between January 13 and February 11 of next year.
If Cameroon has a successful tournament, the former Inter Milan goalkeeper could miss six Premier League and FA Cup matches for his team.
Onana, however, is concerned about losing his spot under Erik ten Hag to Turkish understudy Altay Bayindir while he is away and may attempt to swerve the event.
However, if Cameroon picks him for their team, Onana may be barred from playing for United during the AFCON under FIFA rules.
According to FIFA regulations, “A player who has been called up by his association for one of its representative teams is, unless otherwise agreed by the relevant association, not entitled to play for the club with which he is registered during the period for which he has been released or should have been released… plus an additional period of five days.”
