A former Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Omo-Agege informed the APC chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in Delta State’s Ughelli North Local Government Area of his resignation in a letter dated May 22, 2026.

In a statement made on Wednesday by his media assistant, Sunday Areh, the former senator stated that his decision was based on recent developments within the party in Delta State, as well as conversations with political allies and supporters.

According to him, his political goals and the interests of his constituency would be better served outside of the APC.

“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria,” Omo-Agege said.

The former legislator also thanked the APC for the opportunity to serve as deputy president of the 9th Senate.

“I thank the APC for the opportunity to serve as deputy president of the 9th Senate. I wish the party well and have requested that my name be removed from all membership records, registers, and communication lists,” he added.

Omo-Agege further declared that he was devoted to achieving progress and effective representation for Delta Central and Nigeria.

His resignation after his defeat in the APC senatorial primary election for the Delta Central Senatorial District.

In the direct primary election held across the district’s eight local government districts using the Option A4 voting system, incumbent Senator Ede Dafinone defeated Omo-Agege.

Nusa Amagbor, Secretary of the APC National Assembly Primary Committee, announced the results, which showed Dafinone receiving 116,252 votes and Omo-Agege receiving 3,643.

Amagbor announced that the exercise was carried out in accordance with the party’s norms and pronounced Dafinone the winner of the primary election after receiving the most legitimate votes cast.
