The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has revealed that he began casting out demons when he was 17 or 18 years old, and he tied this early religious experience to his position against insecurity and cultism in the state.
Okpebholo shared this during a Sunday service at The VOTAGE Church, also called The Voice of This Age, held at the WINLOS Centre in Benin City.
A video of his comments resurfaced and started trending on social media on Tuesday.
“When I see young ones standing in the presence of God, I remember at the age of 17/18, I’ve also started casting out demons,” Okpebholo said.
The governor added, “So fighting insecurity, most especially cultism, is not a new thing to me. It’s something that has been happening.”
In an Instagram post on Sunday, The VOTAGE Church confirmed that the governor would be attending the service, adding that it was honored to host him.
The church described the service as a time of prayer for the “peace, progress, and prosperity of Edo State” and expressed gratitude to the governor for worshipping with the congregation.
Okpebholo likewise confirmed his attendance in a post on X, stating that he worshipped at Living Faith Church on Sapele Road before going on to attend The VOTAGE Church in Benin City.
According to him, the congregation prayed for the continued peace and protection of Edo State, for wisdom and strength for those entrusted with leadership, and for God’s blessings upon the people and families in the state.
