Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has issued a warning to those sponsoring insecurity in the country to desist and allow the presidency to focus on governance.
Okpebholo made the statement on Tuesday in Benin during the launch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for local government council elections in the Edo South Senatorial District.
He said that insecurity has suddenly escalated across the country and was orchestrated to damage President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
Okpebholo stated that promoting insecurity would not guarantee the perpetrators seats in the Senate, House of Representatives, or the presidency, as there is no vacancy in Aso Rock.
“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock. They can even kidnap all of us—yes, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock. What is happening today is the handiwork of the opposition.
“They have failed. Have they not failed? Is it by kidnapping children? Then who are you going to govern? There will be nobody for you to govern. So let them give us peace so that we can rule well,” Okpebholo said.
The governor emphasized that the president has done more for the country than his predecessors.
He stated that the impact of the removal of the gasoline subsidy could be seen and felt across a variety of projects around the state.
He praised individuals who made it through the party’s primary election to become candidates for the next council elections.
He said their successes would raise the prospect of delivering the 2.5 million votes promised to President Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
The party’s chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, also spoke, describing the APC as the state’s only credible party.
He asked the candidates to spread the governor’s developmental message throughout the state and replicate it in their respective local government areas.
