    NPL: Enyimba crowned champions, win 9th title

    Enyimba FC of Aba have emerged champions of the Nigerian Premiere League for the ninth time after a 1-1 tie with Rivers United on Sunday night at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos.

    The People’s Elephant finished top of the log with nine points from five matches in the Super Six playoffs.

    Their victory has also earned them a place in next season’s CAF Champions League.

    A goal from Ekenne Awazie saw Enyimba take the lead in the 37th minute.

    However, Rivers United restored parity three minutes after the break, with Nyima Nwagua firing home from inside the box.

    Remo Stars finished second and will also feature in the CAF Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.

    Former champions Rivers United ended the season in third place and will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.

    However, Bendel Insurance of Benin who have had an incredible run this season failed to secure an inter-continental spot.
