There was chaos on Saturday during a Nigeria Premier Football League match between Katsina United and Barau Football Club after Barau FC player Nana Abraham was attacked and left with a deep cut on his neck by irate fans who flooded the pitch.

The incident happened immediately after Barau’s Orji Kalu scored in the 69th minute to tie the game at 1-1, which appeared to enrage some Katsina United fans inside the stadium.

Barau FC acknowledged the attack in a tweet on their official X on Saturday, adding, “70′ The match is briefly delayed due to an attack on Barau FC player, Nana Abraham.” Katsina United | 1-1 | Barau FC.”

Just moments ago, the club celebrated the equalizer with another update that said, “69′ Goal! Orji Kalu equalizes the scores. Katsina United | 1-1 | Barau FC.”

Images from the scene showed Abraham bleeding from a neck wound as authorities and teammates scrambled to contain the situation on the field. The competition was temporarily paused when security personnel intervened to restore order and safeguard the players.

Despite the stress, the game was eventually resumed and concluded 1-1 after regulation time.

As of the time of posting this story, neither Katsina United nor the NPFL management has issued an official statement on the matter.

This comes just a month after SaharaReporters revealed a similar story in Kano at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

This incident happened after Shooting Stars (3SC) scored a thrilling 94th-minute equalizer to draw 1-1 with Kano Pillars in a Nigerian Premier Football League Matchday 8 encounter.

Shortly after the away team scored, enraged Kano Pillars fans flooded the ground and brutally assaulted the referee, match officials, and Shooting Star players.

In a frantic attempt to restore order, security forces used tear gas.

The NPFL sanctioned Kano Pillars Football Club with a ₦9.5 million fine, 3-point and 3-goal deductions, and the indefinite closure of the Sani Abacha Stadium due to the violence.

The ruling, published in a legal document named “FORM 16: Summary Jurisdiction Notice” dated October 13, 2025, and signed by Davidson Owumi, the NPFL’s Chief Operating Officer, found the Kano-based team guilty of various violations of the league’s Frameworks and Rules.
