Linda Noskova claimed her maiden Grand Slam title on Saturday after defeating compatriot Karolina Muchova 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 in a dramatic all-Czech women’s singles final at Wimbledon.
The 21-year-old overcame the disappointment of squandering five match points in the second set before regaining her composure to secure victory on her sixth opportunity in the deciding set.
With the triumph, Noskova became the third Czech woman to win Wimbledon in the past four years, following Marketa Vondrousova in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova in 2024. She also extended the tournament’s run of first-time women’s champions to nine consecutive editions.
Noskova dominated the opening set with aggressive baseline hitting and broke Muchova twice to take it 6-2. She appeared on course for a straight-sets victory after breaking serve in the second set, but Muchova mounted a spirited comeback, saving five match points before taking the set 7-5.
The momentum briefly shifted in Muchova’s favour, but Noskova recovered impressively in the deciding set, sealing victory with an unreturnable serve before collapsing to the grass in celebration.
Speaking after the match, Noskova described the victory as “incredible” and praised Muchova for pushing her to the limit.
The emotional champion also dedicated the title to her late mother, who passed away on the eve of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.
“I’d definitely not be standing here without her,” Noskova said through tears while thanking her family for their support.
Muchova, who also finished runner-up at the 2023 French Open, congratulated her compatriot and vowed to continue chasing her first Grand Slam title despite the heartbreaking defeat.
Czech President Petr Pavel hailed the final as a celebration of Czech tennis, saying both players had made their country proud with a historic Wimbledon showdown.
