The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), the sole importer of petrol in Nigeria, has kept mum as residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and Kaduna suffer fuel scarcity.

Checks by Chronicle NG across filling stations along Kubwa expressway showed most stations are not dispensing petrol except the NNPC and Salbas.

Aliyu Bello, a motorist, lamented that he had been in the queue at NNPCL since 7 a.m.

He wondered what could have caused the fuel shortage this time.

“I have been here since 7 a.m. today, yet there has been no assurance that I could get the product. The situation is terrible. I wonder what could be the reason for this  hardship,” he stated.

    • Fuel scarcity hits Abuja as petrol tanker drivers begin strike

Benson Adejo, a resident, said the situation is the same in Abuja’s Lugbe and Wuye areas.

“I queued at Shafa filling station in Wuye for hours before I could get the product. On my way from Lugbe, I could not see any filling stations dispensing,” he told reporters.

Newsmen reported that Kaduna residents are also experiencing fuel scarcity.

At the time of filing this report, the NNPCL spokesperson, Femi Soneye, had not responded to calls or texts seeking his comments on fuel scarcity.

Similarly, the National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Abubakar Maigandi, had yet to make a public statement.

Recall that fuel subsidy removal by President Bola Tinubu’s government saw the pump price of fuel rise to between N617 and N690 per litre from N238.

In March, NNPCL refuted reports of a fuel price reduction.
