The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has blown the whistle on what it describes as a “coordinated sabotage campaign” aimed at discrediting its leadership and halting its ongoing transformation into a corruption-free institution.

In a strongly worded statement, the company revealed that a syndicate allegedly involving actors both inside and outside the organisation is behind a flurry of fabricated reports and misinformation.

“This group is actively spreading lies and misinformation to discredit NNPC Ltd.’s leadership and derail the transformation into a performance-driven, transparent energy giant,” the company stated.

The NNPC claims the smear effort is a direct response to its reform agenda, which aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s mandate for accountability and good governance within public institutions.

“These faceless actors are threatened by change,” the statement continued, warning that more defamatory content may be released in the coming days in a bid to distract the public and stall progress.

Despite the brewing storm, NNPC says it remains focused and undeterred. It urged its staff, stakeholders, and patriotic Nigerians to stay vigilant and ignore what it termed “noise” from saboteurs.

The revelation comes just a day after the Senate Committee on Public Accounts issued a 10-day ultimatum to the national oil firm to respond to queries over N210 trillion in discrepancies found in its audited financial statements.

As the NNPC continues its drive for transparency and efficiency, all eyes are now on how it handles both internal resistance and mounting public scrutiny.
