Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), the country’s national energy corporation, has joined the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP) 2.0, reinforcing its commitment to methane reduction and environmental transparency.
The OGMP 2.0, is an international initiative with more than 150 member companies representing over 42% of global oil and gas production, to curb methane emissions.
NNPC’s decision to join the partnership aligns with its goal to achieve net zero methane intensity by 2030. This ambition forms part of the company’s broader decarbonisation strategy and its effort to meet global environmental standards.
“The OGMP 2.0’s robust framework allows companies to enhance accountability, share best practices, and adopt advanced methane measurement and management techniques,” NNPC said in a post on its ‘X’ page.
The annual OGMP 2.0 conference serves as a vital forum for strengthening collaboration and sharing innovative approaches among its members.
The annual implementation conference of UNEP’s Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 will take place from February 4 to 6, 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
