Nkechi Blessing: Why I don’t envy married people

Nigerian actress Nkechi Blessing has said she feels no envy towards married people, adding that societal pressure around marriage is often exaggerated.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, the film star shared reflections centred on self-growth and emotional independence, encouraging followers to release anything that no longer supports their personal development.

“Growth sometimes looks like walking away. Walking away from people, places, habits, and situations that no longer align with the person you’re becoming,” she said.

“Not out of anger, bitterness, or pride but out of self-respect. Some chapters are meant to end so new ones can begin. I’ve learned that protecting your peace is not selfish, and letting go is often the bravest form of self-love.

“If it no longer serves your purpose, your happiness, or your growth, it’s okay to leave it behind. The right things won’t require you to abandon yourself to keep them.”

In another slide, she challenged the idea that marriage guarantees stability, pointing to what she described as the reality of many relationships around her.

“You think I envy married people? God forbid. 80% of the ones I once admired are now back on the streets. Who marriage help, abeg?” she wrote.

The actress was previously married to Opeyemi Falegan, a marriage that ended in 2022.
