The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast cloudy weather, thunderstorms and rainfall across several parts of Nigeria on Monday, August 24, 2026.
According to NiMet’s daily weather outlook, northern states are expected to experience patches of cloud in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in the afternoon and evening.
In the North-Central region, cloudy conditions are expected in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall forecast across most parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger and Plateau states later in the day.
Southern states are also expected to experience cloudy skies in the morning, with chances of light rainfall over parts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
NiMet said intermittent moderate rainfall is expected across most parts of the southern region during the afternoon and evening.
The agency urged residents to exercise caution, warning that strong winds could precede thunderstorms.
“Residents in flood-prone and low-lying areas should remain alert,” NiMet said in its daily weather outlook. “Avoid driving or walking through flooded roads. Disconnect electrical appliances during thunderstorms where necessary.”
NiMet also advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather briefings from the agency to support safe flight planning.
The weather advisory comes as parts of the country continue to experience rainfall, raising concerns over possible flooding in vulnerable and low-lying areas.
