Nigerians have reacted differently to the setting up of a Fulani Radio

Nigerians have reacted both angrily and indifferently to the establishment of Fulani Radio in the northern part of the country for herdsmen.

Unveiling the radio station, Minister of Education Adamu Adamu confirmed the acquisition of the station’s licence in Abuja.

He said the radio service would operate on 720KHz frequency and would strictly use the Fulani dialect.

He added that plans were underway to get funds for the procurement and installation of equipment.

But not many Nigerians are happy about the establishment of radio station for Fulanis that will be funded by the government.

The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum says the federal government should not go ahead with the radio station for Fulani herdsmen.

“We totally reject this insensitive decision of the government,” the forum said in a statement by spokespersons Yinka Odumakin (South West), Prof. Chigozie Ogbu (South East), Senator Bassey Henshaw (South South), and Dr. Isuwa Dogo (Middle Belt).

On Twitter, Nigerians have shared divergent views about the radio station. Adejumo Oluwafunmilayo quizzed the motive for the radio station. “What if the newly licensed Fulani Radio station has a genocidal intent? Remember Rwanda folks? The genocide was fueled by predominantly Hutu staffed Radio Rwanda, urging people to come out in droves with machetes to wipe out the “cockroaches” I shudder for my country,” she tweeted.

Omokhoa Aifegha also shares her sentiments. “The Federal Government seems to be confused. If the Fulani radio is allowed to stay then the Biafra radio and other tribes radio should be allowed to stay,” he argued.

Kate Nnaji proffered a solution to the problem. “If I’m worried about the Fulani Radio station, I will learn the language, buy a radio, tune to the station and listen too. We need peace in Nigeria because peace brings progress to a nation,” she tweeted.

Alpha Female thinks differently. “Obasanjo is 100% correct. Fulanization ans Islamization agenda is coming very fast. Just the other week ₦100b was approved for Meyitti Allah; this week FG approved Fulani Radio. This same week Buhari gave an order to annul gun licenses; meaning people won’t have guns to defend themselves,” she said.
