Nigerians have applauded Iliyasu Muhammed over the bravery he showed when kidnappers raided his apartment.
30-year-old Muhammed fought off kidnappers who made an attempt to abduct his wife from their home in the Ring Road area of Jos, Plateau State.
Despite being held at gunpoint and shot in the jaw, the brave Nigerian wrestled with one of the kidnappers courageously until one of the kidnappers inadvertently shot dead his colleague.
Popular Jos-based On Air personality and journalist Lukman Bello met Muhammed today in Jos while applauding his gallantry.
“I finally met 30-year-old Iliyasu Muhammad, my hero of the year. (This happened two years ago.) Bello wrote in a statement on Facebook on Friday.
“This young man singlehandedly fought a kidnapper to death in the Ring Road area of Jos North recently,’ he added.
“Recall that two kidnappers stormed his residence and were about to leave with his wife, to which Iliyasu said never!!
“The young man courageously wrestled one of the kidnappers, and while his nihilist colleague attempted to shoot, Iliyasu, the gun broke his jaw. Iliya did not still leave the one he was holding.
”It was while trying to shoot him the second time that Iliyasu turned the bandit whose chest was shattered with the bullet.
“Iliyasu was rushed to JUTH, where one Dr Gyang saved his life,” Bello added.
Bello, however, mentioned that the brave Nigerian wasn’t contacted or visited by government officials after the ordeal.
”He said no government official called him thus far. Nevertheless, I told him he’s our hero,” he said.
”God bless Iliyasu Muhammad because since his show of audacious audacity, the kidnappers have not returned to their area.
”God bless Iliyasu Muhammad. ‘Amen/Ameen,’ Bello added.
Muhammed’s gallantry attracted applause from Nigerians who praised his gallantry.
