Good morning! Happy Democracy Day Nigeria.

Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers

    1. Prominent Nigerians have felicitated with Nigeria on her Democracy Day celebration. President Muhammadu Buhari, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Bukola Saraki and others have in separate statements called on Nigerians ‎to be vigilant and by doing so ensure a better future and better Nigeria for themselves and their progeny.

    2. Founder of the Latter Rain Assembly, Lagos, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has averred that Nigeria is on the verge of another Civil War following its leaders’ refusal to address incessant killings of other Nigerians by herdsmen.

According to Bakare, who doubles as leader of Save Nigeria Group, the nation is moving towards another collapse with the division among different groups and violence in the country.

    3. The Ahmed Makarfi-led Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Caretaker Committee has declared President Muhammadu Buhari incompetent.

The party said Buhari had squandered the opportunity given to him by Nigerians through his “intolerance and high handedness to any form of opposition.

    4. The acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has admitted that Nigerians are fed up and just waiting for something to explode.

Osinbajo, however, called on Nigerians to be patient with the All Progressives Congress, APC, led government, adding that those that may be nursing the intentions to carryout coup in the country should desist, maintaining that coup cannot work now and will not succeed.

    5. Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has warned that anger of the youths might consume Nigeria very soon.

Obasanjo noted that Nigerian youths are angry as a result of their neglect, adding that the country will not be transformed if it continued to neglect its youths in the scheme of things.

    6. A youth group, under the auspices of Igbo for Nigerian Movement, INM, has launched anti-Biafra campaign, calling on the entire Ndigbo to bury the idea of the struggle for the Republic of Biafra.

The group warmed that the ongoing clamour by some persons for the secession of Igbo from Nigeria was a call to self-destruction and would only do them more harm than good.

    7. A Lagos High Court has barred local government areas from conducting marriages across the country.

The court, in a verdict, declared that the Local Government Unified Marriage Certificate was unknown to law and therefore unconstitutional, null and void.

    8. The Nigeria Labour Congress has called on the Federal Government to use the occasion of Democracy Day celebration to announce the composition of a tripartite negotiation committee on the national minimum wage.

The NLC President, Mr Ayuba Wabba, recalled that the minimum wage was increased to N18,000 six years ago, adding that the patience of workers had been stretched due to the current inflation in the country.

    9. An Elder statesman and former commissioner of police, Lagos State Alhaji Abubakar B. Tsav has called for the immediate probe of the Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom of neglecting the state.

Tsav asked all relevant security agencies to probe the governor for using his office to acquire ill-wealth for himself, family, cronies, favoured ones and in-laws.

    10. The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Abubakar Sadique, has declared that recent intelligence has indicated that terrorists may be planning to attack military bases in the country.

The Air Force chief said that the solution was to have a base defence system, driven by technology across military facilities. (DailyPost.ng)
