The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced the single highest number of coronavirus cases in the country since the index case was announced.

The 245 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed cases to 2802.

The NCDC reported that 17 more patients were discharged and six more deaths recorded on the day the federal government of Nigeria relaxed lockdown.

    “76-Lagos, 37-Katsina, 32-Jigawa, 23-Kano, 19-FCT, 18-Borno, 10-Edo, 9-Bauchi, 6-Adamawa, 5-Oyo, 5-Ogun, 1-Ekiti, 1-Osun, 1-Benue, 1-Niger and 1-Zamfara.

A total of 2802 confirmed cases of COVID-19 was announced by the NCDC. With 417 discharged patients and 93 deaths in total.

Businesses partially reopened on the first working day after the easing of a lockdown imposed on Lagos, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory.

Many fear that a second wave of coronavirus looms as most Nigerians did not observe any form of social distancing especially at financial institutions like the banks and bank ATMs.

The lockdown in Nigeria began five weeks ago to curb the spread of coronavirus.

But last week, President Muhammadu Buhari said the measures had imposed “a very heavy economic cost”.

As many in the big cities live a hand-to-mouth existence, the lockdown led to fears that it could leave people hungry as it cut off their means to earn money.
