The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has expressed sadness over the tragic death of a Nigerian national, Emeka Christian, in Pune, India, who was allegedly beaten to death by two of his compatriots, Chukwudi Okafor, 31, and Samuel Eze, over a romantic dispute.

NIDCOM Chairperson Abike Dabiri-Erewa released a statement on Saturday in Abuja expressing her sincere sympathies to the lost family and loved ones, noting that no family should have to go through such agony.

The statement, issued by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocol, stated that the commission had urged Indian authorities to thoroughly examine the incident and ensure justice was delivered.

“NIDCOM calls on the relevant Indian authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation, ensuring that justice is served without delay.”

NIDCOM admonished Nigerians in the diaspora, noting, “As ambassadors of our great nation in their respective domains, your actions abroad reflect on Nigeria’s image.”

As a result, the panel recommended residents prioritize togetherness, respect, and lawfulness in all situations.

“Violence has no place among us. Together, we can build a stronger and more positive diaspora community,” the statement added.

The Commission also asked all Nigerians in the diaspora to always be their brother’s keeper, resolve disagreements amicably via conversation, and maintain the highest ethical standards.
