The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has declared the position of the Super Eagles head coach vacant following the expiration of the contract of Jose Peseiro at the end of February.

Peseiro, who led Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in February, left the role after 22 months in charge of the Super Eagles.

Jose Peseiro has resigned as coach of Nigeria’s men national team

With the departure of the Portuguese, who led the Eagles to second place at the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, the Glass House is out shopping for a replacement.

Reports of the appointment of former gaffer, Austin Eguavoen, as interim manager were denied by NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau. But the football body said on Friday that it has begun the search for Peseiro’s successor, calling for applications to fill the role.

The NFF also declared vacant the position of the Golden Eaglets’ head coach.

In an advertisement on its website calling for applications, the NFF stated that the prospective Super Eagles coach “must have proven experience at the elite level of football.”

    • BREAKING: Jose Peseiro quits as Super Eagles coach

“Attention! passionate and proven football coaches! The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is looking for a visionary leader to take the helm of our senior men’s national team, the mighty Super Eagles!” the NFF wrote on its website.

“This is your chance to lead a team steeped in history and guide them towards even greater glory on the international stage. Are you ready to answer the call?”

It listed the criteria to coach the three-time African champions to include having the right qualifications, a winning mentality, elite experience, and a focus on Africa.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make history with Nigerian football. If you’re a coach who thrives on pressure and dreams of etching your name in football lore, we want to hear from you!” the advertisement read.

It added that applications can be sent to the email- jobs@thenff.com or via the link – https//thenff.com/jobs/head-coach-of-the-senior-mens-national-team-super-eagle/ latest by 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.

While no game has been arranged for the Super Eagles ahead of the March 18 international free window, the federation is now faced with the task of appointing a new coach for the team before their next World Cup qualifiers in June.
