The Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 2,200 migrants on Tuesday, as President Donald Trump’s government stepped up its crackdown on illegal immigrants in the United States.

According to NBC News, the number of arrests was the biggest in a single day in United States history.

Following pressure from the United States, the agency increased the hunt, and hundreds of persons apprehended have been registered in ICE’s Alternative to Detention programme.

According to the report, ICE freed undocumented immigrants who were not judged a threat to public safety and had tracked them via ankle monitors, smartphone applications, or other geolocation programs.

Meanwhile, there have been no indications on whether Nigerians were among the immigrants detained by ICE.

Punch Diaspora Tales contacted an immigration lawyer and other Nigerians in the US about the development, but they had not responded as of the time of posting this article.

The Trump-led United States government has promised to deport illegal migrants in the United States.

The White House reiterated this in its Valentine message on St Valentine’s Day.

In a statement shared on its official X handle on Friday, February 14, 2025, the White House wrote, “Roses are red, violets are blue, come here illegally and we’ll deport you.”

The message comes amid Trump’s push to deport illegal migrants in the United States.
