Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, has vowed to become the sworn enemy of former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Omokri, in a statement on X in the late hours of Friday, made the pledge while responding to a statement by Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election.

Chronicle NG reports that Obi has shown  willingness to work together with fellow politicians like Atiku and Kwankwaso for the 2027 election.

Obi, in an interview with News Central, stated his readiness to collaborate with individuals across the political spectrum, including Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the ex-presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

However, the former governor of Anambra State emphasised that any collaboration must focus on improving the lives of citizens rather than just winning elections.

“I’m ready to collaborate with anyone who is interested in lifting people out of poverty. If the collaboration is for state capture or just to win an election, I will not be part of it.”

He further explained, “I will not join anybody for state capture or for winning the election. I want anybody to tell me how we are going to ensure that no child is left behind and how we will get millions of out-of-school children back in school.”

Speaking on whether he would consider being a vice president for another politician, Obi stated that he would be open to the role if he found someone who could do the job better than he could.

He clarified, “Quite frankly, for me, I’m not desperate to be Nigerian president. I am desperate to see Nigeria work. If I see people who can do the work better, I will.”

Reacting to Obi’s statement, Omokri, a close affiliate of Atiku, urged Atiku not to select Obi as his running mate in the 2027 presidential election.

Omokri, a staunch critic of Obi, said his relationship with Atiku would be affected if the former vice president joined forces with Obi.

”As much as I love and respect Waziri Atiku, if he gives him the VP slot he is now begging for, Waziri Atiku Abubakar, whom I love and respect so much, will automatically become my enemy, and I will fight him,” Omokri said.
