Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, has vowed not to apologise to Peter Obi, the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 presidential election, for accusing him of being the mastermind behind the “hunger protest.”

Onanuga, in a statement on Monday, accused Obi and his supporters of planning to destabilise Nigeria under the guise of a protest.

Reacting to Onanuga’s accusations, Obi, through his legal council, wrote a letter to Onanuga, titled, ‘Revealed, Peter Obi’s supporters are the people planning mayhem in Nigeria.’

The Labour Party chieftain, in the letter, demands Onanuga’s retraction of his statement in “the publication and tender an unreserved apology to him within 72 hours.”

The former governor of Anambra State is also demanding “an unequivocal demand for monetary damages of five billion naira for the embarrassment your defamatory publication has caused him and his family.”

However, in reaction to Obi’s letter, Onanuga, in a statement on X on Tuesday, vowed not to apologise to Obi or pay the N5bn in damages to the Labour Party chieftain.

He also announced his readiness to meet Obi and his legal team in court should they file the lawsuit as threatened.

“I am still waiting for the letter Peter Obi’s lawyer threatening a N5 billion suit and demanding an apology to Peter Obi over the planned ‘revolution,’ he wrote in a statement on X.

“Let me just tell Obi and his lawyer; I am not afraid of any legal action. We shall meet in court,” he added.
