Abdulrashidu Ya’u, a tea vendor from Jigawa State, allegedly killed Hassan Garba, a 20-year-old man accused of stealing bread, milk, noodles, and gas.

The suspect, who lives in Sararai village, Jigawar Tsada town, Dutse Local Government Area, is believed to have committed the crime on August 19, 2024, around 5:00 a.m. DSP Lawan Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Jigawa State Command, acknowledged the crime in a statement issued on Tuesday.

He stated that following getting the report, a standby patrol unit raced to the location, detained the culprit, and sent the victim to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital for immediate medical care.

Unfortunately, he noted that on arrival, “The medical doctor on duty certified the 20-year-old dead. His remains were examined, photographed, and later released to his relatives for burial according to Islamic rite.”

During an interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse, the suspect admitted that the dead had offended him by stealing his belongings, to the point that he alerted his parents, but nothing was done.

“Upon apprehending the deceased at this point, he made the decision to tie him with a rope and begin striking him with a whip in secret,”  the PPRO further revealed.

He stated that residents in the area heard the deceased’s calls for help but were unable to save him until police officers arrived.

Adam vowed that after the covert investigation was completed, the suspect would be diligently arraigned in court and suffer the full fury of the law.

Similarly, a police spokesperson stated that on August 20, 2024, at approximately 3 p.m., one Mamuda Yusuf,’m’ of Kadume village, Malam Madori LGA, reported to Hadejia ‘A’ Division that on the same date at approximately 1500 hrs, his jinchen motorbike, black in colour, without registration number, was stolen at Hadejia General Hospital, and that upon receipt of the report, police officers on patrol were alerted.

He stated that on August 21, 2024, at approximately 7 a.m., one Aliyu Aliyu’m’, age 24, of Gagulmari Quarters, Hadejia LGA, was apprehended, and the stolen motorbike was discovered in his hands.

“During the interrogation process at the Divisional Crime Branch Hadejia, the suspect admitted to committing the alleged offence.
