A gas plant explosion razed a facility in Niger State on Saturday night, February 8, 2025, at about 11 pm, destroying properties worth millions of naira.
The incident occurred near the Kalasma Filling Station in Sabon Wuse, on the Kaduna Motorway, during a gas transloading operation from a trailer tanker to a surface tank.
Both the caravan and the gas plant were entirely burnt, as was Abubakar Yakubu’s car, which was parked nearby.
The fire extended to the Ngeil Grains Processing Factory, destroying 550 bags of beans and six bags of soybeans.
Abdullahi Baba-Arah, Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), confirmed the occurrence on Sunday, February 9, 2025, and stated that no lives were lost.
“At about 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, 8th February 2025, the Tasiu Gas Plant beside Kalasma Filling Station in Sabon Wuse exploded and burst into flames.
“The incident occurred during the transloading of gas from a trailer tanker to a surface tank. Both the trailer and the gas plant were completely burnt, along with a car belonging to Abubakar Yakubu.
“The fire also gutted Ngeil Grains Processing Factory, destroying hundreds of bags of beans and soybeans.
“As of the time of filing this report, no lives were lost, and the fire has been brought under control,” he said.
However, emergency responders managed to contain the fire caused by the explosion, but the damage remains extensive.
This comes after two successive explosions in the state towards the end of January—the fuel tanker with almost a hundred persons death toll and the one of illegal mining explosives storage.
