Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has expressed great grief over the cruel attack by suspected terrorists on a mining site in Kuru District, Jos South Local Government Area, which cost the lives of several innocent miners.

The governor issued the remark on Thursday, following the massacre of seven individuals by gunmen who raided a mining facility in the Kuru town late Wednesday night.

Mutfwang’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, issued a statement on Thursday expressing his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and describing the attack as barbaric, senseless, and most unfortunate, especially at a time when the government has intensified efforts to restore long-term peace across the state.

“The Governor strongly condemned the recent coordinated attacks in the Kuru, Gyel, and Buhum communities in the Chugwi Village of the Vwang District, reaffirming his administration’s firm commitment to safeguarding lives and property in every part of Plateau State.

“He lamented the tragic loss of innocent lives, stressing that such acts of terror will not deter the government’s resolve to decisively confront banditry, terrorism, and all forms of criminality.

“Governor Mutfwang commended the resilience and dedication of the security agencies in the state and charged them to intensify intelligence-led operations to ensure the swift arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the heinous crimes in the affected communities,” the statement read.

He also instructed security services to collaborate closely with local communities to proactively identify and neutralize potential threats, while emphasizing the government’s support for families who have lost loved ones in violent acts around the state.

The governor also asked Operation Rainbow staff to improve intelligence collecting and early warning procedures to enable timely and efficient security responses.

He reassured the people of Plateau State of his unwavering commitment to their safety, well-being, and overall prosperity.
