Nigerians have called on Pastor Paul Eneche, the senior pastor and founder of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, to publicly apologize to Barrister Vera Anyim.
The call comes on the heels of Eneche calling Anyim a liar for saying she graduated with a BSc in Law from the National Open University of Nigeria.
An elated Anyim had gone to give testimony over her graduation from the university and for breaking an alleged curse on her family.
“I want to appreciate God for my life and that of my family, and I want to thank God for using Daddy (Eneche) and Mommy (Mrs. Eneche) for our sake,” Anyim stated.
“It all happened that I was trying to go to school at the National Open University. Before I came to Dunamis, a lot of things were happening in my life and with my family.
“From my father and mother’s family, no one is a graduate. They only ended up in primary and secondary school. But when God remembered me… I went to do a law program, which I started in 2014,” she added.
She further stated that during her schooling years, her course mates graduated before her because she was facing various challenges.
However, she noted in her testimony that she graduated from the university on April 13, 2024, with a “BSc in Law.”
Reacting to her testimony, Eneche said, ‘The testimony is a lie. There is nothing like a “BSc in Law.”
Furthermore, he berated the graduate, saying, “Is that how lawyers speak English?”
He also warned his congregation against coming to give “false testimonies.”
Eneche’s statement has generated heated reactions on social media platforms, with many demanding he apologize to Barrister Ayim.
Reacting to Eneche’s statement, Temi Rossie mentioned that “he really should apologize. If I’m that woman, I’ll never step foot in that church again. He shouldn’t have talked to her like that publicly.”
Obot Sampson stated, “the pastor was too harsh on the lady, but religious doctrine won’t allow us to speak the truth.”
In his reaction, Uzoamaka Oluah-Ogor urged the Man of God to “slice his ego” and publicly apologize to the woman.
“Dear Mr. Paul Eneche, you owe this woman a public apology. Slice your ego and do the needful.
“You disgraced yourself, not Barrister Vera Anyim.
“The church is supposed to be a place of comfort and soul upliftment. A go-to place for peace of mind and not a breeding ground for public disgrace and invalidation of attained credentials and qualifications.
“As a man of God, which you claim to be, your actions and words should not trigger suicidal thoughts or affect people’s mental health negatively.
“What you’ve done does not in any way conform to the teachings of the Bible you carry. Nuances in language usage should not trigger your temper. Learn to think and reason before you talk.”
Elisha Yila Yakubu argued that, “Pastor Paul Enenche shouldn’t have attacked her in that manner; no sane Christian will stand in such a congregation to give false testimony. Her being the first graduate in her family and the challenges she overcame calls for a testimony.”
Elan Tracey urged the woman to sue the pastor for libel. She said, “It was a very terrible thing to do to that woman. He should apologize and compensate her. She should even sue him for libel.”
Kelechi also noted that “Pastor Paul Enenche should have apologized to the woman; he embarrassed her publicly, crushed her spirit, and outrightly called her a liar without any evidence or verification. If he doesn’t apologize, she can sue him.”
Jonah Nagura, said, “This just hurts me so much; it was her graduation and birthday a day before. Imagine being called a lair before all those people. Enenche, @drpaulenenche, do better to apologize.”
Obichuckwu Ndibam, notes, “It’s important for public figures to handle situations like this with empathy and understanding. If the proof indeed shows that Pastor Paul Enenche‘s actions were unjustified, an apology would be the right course of action to mend the situation and restore trust.”
